You Know What You Have to Do
It is officially time for Democrats to stop trying to kick the snot out of each other and focus on beating tRump.
If you’re even reading this right now, I’m sure I don’t have to recap for you what just transpired in the senate, where the repubs couldn’t even really bother with a sham trial. Witnesses and documents are not necessary.
While this was pretty much a forgone conclusion from the get-go, just watching the senate do this, and give rationale clearly aimed at two-digit IQ’s, is just a bridge too far.
Repubs like to make fun of people who point out that we are slipping into a dictatorship and will even ask “how are we becoming a dictatorship.” Well, here’s your answer. First and foremost, those in power -- particularly the autocrat at the top -- are not only able to escape consequences for their actions, but after a while, to evade and scrutiny of their actions.
Check on that.
And perhaps, finally, at long last, people are starting to see that it’s not just tRump, but the repub party as a whole. It has been this way for a very long time, but now moscow’s bitch -- whoops, I mean moscow mitch, are blatantly and openly covering for tRump, telling you they’re openly and blatantly covering for him, and defying you to do anything about it.
In other words, now they’re calling you and me “bitches.”
In a way, this is all good. It is finally in the clear that the repub party is serious about maintaining a permanent majority, which they started talking about openly in the 2000’s. Understand, they’re not talking about coming up with great policies that the Democrats just can’t match. They’re talking about voter suppression, justice suppression and, as of 2016, help from foreign dictators, to keep that majority. And, like most other dictatorships, their class and people connected to them will do very well, but everybody else will stagnate.
The United States of America is facing the very real possibility, down the road, of becoming just another third-world dictatorship.
With all of this in mind, Democrats need to pull together. Definitely, candidates have to have a vigorous debate about policy, and much more importantly, why they are the best choice to defeat tRump. Most important of all, rank and file Democrats need to grow up and stop threatening not to vote for the candidate if their choice isn’t the nominee.
We don’t have time now for that kind of foolishness. We are about four years away -- or less -- from comedians being banned, blackballed and perhaps locked up for making fun of dear leader. Or, from companies being able to do whatever they want to you, whether you’re a customer or an employee, because thanks to “conservative” judges, your legal recourse is minimal or non-existent.
How blatant are they? Moscow mitch and tRump handed massive tax cuts to the wealthiest amongst us, and are now telling you they have to cut YOUR Social Security, YOUR Medicare, YOUR public education, to pay for those tax cuts for people already doing better than anyone else.
We can argue about whether Medicare for All or beefed-up Obamacare is the best way to address healthcare. But, if tRump is re-elected, neither will be a choice. Your choices will be cheap plans that cover nothing, super-expensive plans that cover nothing, or … nothing.
The choices are very simple. Definitely, vote for your preferred candidates in the primaries. But come November, the cliche stands -- “vote blue no matter who.”
As Bill Maher said recently, we shouldn’t have to turn out in massive numbers -- winning by one vote should be enough. And he’s absolutely right in a moral and theoretical way but...turn out in massive numbers. Vote for any and every Democrat, from president to dog catcher.
We are faced with becoming another russia. Russia is a country with great, talented people, blessed with natural resources, and whether or not they choose to acknowledge it, great diversity amongst its people. But it’s also a backwater because for centuries, the country has been run for the sole benefit of czars and their families, the communist party, and now the thugocracy of putin. For all of its massive natural and intellectual resources, the russian economy is the size of that of Italy.
And we have a party here, the repub party, that shares that vision -- if you can call it that -- for this country. They have crushed labor unions, they are decimating the social safety net, they pit groups of people in this country at each other’s throats seemingly for entertainment, and they see massive wealth and income inequality as necessary to their governance.
And you are the last thing that stands in the way from this vision becoming the reality of the United States of America. Folks, you know what to do.
